Week in Review

this week was a tough week for running with the weather changes but a good week for marathon prep. Everyone had a good week - the speed workout this week was 8x800 - Sean and I did them in Clermont in very cold and windy weather - no real problems though - we should have just knocked out ten and had it over with. Sean looked very smooth and in control running his 800s and I felt good during mine. It was tough because of the winds on the track. Mike R knocked out an extra because he was feeling good.

The long run this weekend was the Deleon Springs Half Marathon - we were to run this race at marathon pace which is difficult to do when running a half marathon - you must be very patient and not get caught up in everything else around you.

Sean ran a 1:22:56 (6:20) pace - right on pace for his 2:45 marathon effort. He placed 2nd overall. I ran a 1:25:38 (6:33) pace which was a little fast than I wanted but I ran the first mile fast because of the 5k runners in the front and the last mile I ran in 6:00 minutes - throw those out and I am right on pace for a 2:55:00 marathon. I ended up in 7th overall. Mike R ran a 1:38:58 (7:34 pace) this would pace him out to a 3:18 marathon - well within marathon qualifying time.

Kevin J also joined us and ran a strong 1:40:57 (7:42 pace) to take 39 seconds off his time at OUC - or 3 seconds every mile. Great improvement for Kevin.

The race was well run and the conditions were perfect. We will all have to make sure we do not get caught up int he early pace setting at Gasparilla if we are going to make our marathon goals.

Cheers
