American Idol Review

ok - another Beatles week - please! The second Beatles week has to be a bummer for the folks that did great last week - how do you top it, but if you did poorly I guess you get a second chance. Here are my opinions (and since they are my opinions they are right, maybe not the same as yours but right):

Amanda - Back In The USSR - one of my favorite Beatles songs because it does not sound like the Beatles - she did ok - aren't all of her songs predictable now? Rock it up - use that raspy voice - act like you do not give a shoot. I give her a 6 and she will be safe because she gets the rocker vote and the pop vote is still plait amongst the others.

Kristy - You've Got To Hide Your Love Away - not bad - I think she is pretty confused as to what she should sing and how she should sing it - I kind of like her but I am not sure - I give it a 5- and she will be safe because she gets the "good looking girl" vote

David A.- Long and Winding Road - this was my high school prom song 25 years ago (I wanted an AC/DC song but was outvoted. He did well - shoot - he remembered the words any way. All of his songs sound alike to me and I definitely would not pay to see him perform - it wold put me to sleep. He is still the popular one and will be around for a while - i give him a 6

Michael - A Day In The Life - I kind of liked it but spots did sound a little weird. He must have felt pretty strange when Paula was rambling about ear monitors and he was not wearing them. He had a reason to sing the song and he sang it ok - I give him a 5

Brooke - Here Comes The Sun - it was ok - she does look like she is lost without a piano in front of her - or some sort of instrument. I am still paying to see her as long as she does not sing this song - I would like to see her drop on a tattoo or something. I give her a 6 and she will still be safe because she is well liked by the fans (after all it is a popularity contest as well as a talent show)

David C.- Day Tripper - White Snake version - who knew? He rocked it pretty good - the voice synthesizer was a little weird and probably could have been left out. I like this dude - I might drop some $ to see him rock out. Give him a 6+

Carly - Blackbird - another favorite song but I like the Bob Weir version a ton better than the Beatles - the CSN&Y version is pretty good too. Any way - I thought she was really good - I really liked it and give her a 7. Her tattoo of the number 7 because it is the 7th season of idol is a little freaky but hey - whatever floats your boat.

Jason - Michelle - oh my - what was that - he better hope the teen girls keep liking him and keep voting for him. I thought this performance was like the dude that got cut last week - blah, blah, blah. Cool dreads still! Give him a 4

Syesha - Yesterday - this was good - the acoustic guitar was awesome and the ballad was nice - she looked nice and sang it well - I gave her a 6+

Chikezie - I've Just Seen A Face - I am not sure I knew this song and hearing him sing a soul, country, rock version with harmonica mixed in I am not sure I like this song. I like his effort and enthusiasm but he tried to hard on this one - give him a 5+

Ramiele - I Should've Known Better - reminds me of the dude that got kicked off last week - very pop - even her outfit was pop. This is something you could catch on the Disney channel. I like Ramiele and her voice but I think she is going home this week - give her a 4.

Ramiele, Christy and Jason all fight to stay in the competition - Christy and Jason probably get more popular votes

Best were - Carly, David C and Syesha

I am a little peeved that no one tackled Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds - I think it would have been awesome - I prefer the Dead version or even Elton John's version but this is a cool song. And no, it is not an LSD song (unless you are at a Dead show) it is rumored that it was written about a Julian Lennon picture about a school girl crush - the L.S.D. was just lucky!

Enjoy - again, just my opinion

Interestingly, I've Just Seen A Face is another with a GD connection... kinda sorta...

6-11-69 California Hall, SF "Bobby Ace And His Cards From The Bottom Of The Deck - Weir, Garcia, Lesh, Hart and Constanten with John Dawson and David Nelson."

no known recording exists :(

Also played 3 times acoustically by Bob & Rob & others during the 1997 Furthur Festival.

And LSD -- not always a great version turned out by Jerry. Ya know, those later years, hit or miss sometimes. Probably half or more of the time -- beautifully Dead on, pun intended. Beatles are great to listen to but this Deadhead prefers Day Tripper or Blackbird or LSD or any Beatles tune done by Jerry or Bobby or Phil(!) who's done Help and Strawberry Fields with his band!

Well, I've typed way more than enough.

garciya later :)
