Sports this weekend

well, this was an awesome weekend if you were a sports fan - there was so much to pay attention to that the DVR was working OT this weekend.

Congrats to Spain on their victory in Euro 2008 - they certainly were the best team yesterday and played great soccer all throughout the tourny.

If anyone is not watching the Olympic Trials you should - they have had high drama already. Swimming and Track and Field are both going on this week and coverage can be found on multiple channels and the web.

Yesterday Tyson Gay ran a 9.68 (wind aided) to win and qualify for the Olympics - it is the fastest 100m time ever (wind or no wind). He ran a 9.77 in the semi finals to set a new American Record. 9.68 is the equivalent to running 23 mph. Congrats to Walter Dix (FSU senior) on making the Olympics by running 9.8 and placing second

In swimming Phelps and Lochte battled it out in the 400 IM and both of the them broke the World Record - only Phelps keeps it because he beat the other dude! They both swam the 400 IM in about 4:06 - that would be equal to a 15:20 1500m swim in a triathlon - amazing - think how fast they would go if they swam only freestyle.

Can't wait for the rest fo the trials and see the amazing athletes that will be representing the US at the Olympics in August!
