It is official - I am on the disable (unable to run) list. After several weeks of bitching about a slight pain in my knee I went to see a doctor and he diagnosed me with a Grade II sprain (probably a partial tear) of my MCL in my left knee. He gave me a brace to wear and told me that I was not allowed to run for 3-4 weeks. The 28th I can strap on the running shoes again and take to the trails.
I told the doctor that I have been running since the injury and that I have done 3 runs over 20 miles, that I am averaging 60-70 miles a week, that I had one of my best runs of the year on Tuesday night, and I had a 50 mile race in February. Some how - while the doctor was amazed I could still run relatively pain free - he held to his guns and is making me rest.
So, Rocky Raccoon is off and focus will be on getting better and then fast paced training for Du nationals. In the mean time I will spin, swim, pool jog, lift and work on core and stretching - in the long run the rest and relaxation might do me some good.
I took 24 hours to feel sorry for myself and now it is back to work. But, I sure do hate wearing this knee brace!

I will bedazzle that knee brace for you. Functional and fashionable. Let me know
Sorry to hear about your knee but you are setting a great example for your athletes if they should ever get injured. I have no doubt you will come back even stronger.
