The Day the Music Died

50 years ago today we lost 3 great musicians in a tragic plane crash. Buddy Holly (that'll be the day that I die, Peggy Sue), Richie Valens (donna, come on, let's go) and J.P. Richardson (chantilly lace).

it is too bad neither of these musicians could have stayed around longer and graced the public with their great music. They are certainly 3 people who died way too soon.

it is ironic that Waylon Jennings (who went on the become a big country star) gave up his seat to J.P and a backup musician Thomas Allsup "lost" a coin flip to Richie Valens for the other seat.

one stirring piece of music came out of this tragic event - Don McClean wrote American Pie about 10 years later - which has many references to Buddy Holly and the crash that killed all three of these musicians.
