The next time I decide to run at 1:30p in the afternoon please shoot me before I walk out the door. There were factors involved in my decision to run at 1:30p but...
Saturday is the long run day for us and I had 15-18 to run. I left the house at 1:30p with the thermostat touching 85 degrees (why is it 85 degrees in December, does Al Gore really know what he is talking about or is it another stupid Al Gore coincidence?). I decided to run from home instead of driving somewhere and decided to take my iPod for some company on a run that no doubt was going to be tough!
From downtown I ran the 3.5 miles to Cady Way Trail and then took Cady Way to seminole county and back. By mile 1 I was sweating at a pretty good rate and trying to keep up with my fluid intake. Maybe those margaritas the night before were not the best decision either :-). My mile 6 or so the sun was behind the clouds and I was ticking off 7:20 miles, on the way back I discovered I had been running with a tail wind on the way out and that it was pretty windy.
The last 3.5 miles were a little struggle but I kept thinking about the last 10k in a marathon and tried to buckle down and keep running. The run ended up being 20 instead of 15-18 because I went too far before turning around but I guess the extra miles are good! When I got home I weighed in and had lost 7 lbs - that is too much for a me and went right into trying to rehydrate.
I also shoveled down and large Pizza Hut pizza that night - yummmmm, pizza!
Any way - the week was good - 53+ miles, a long 20 mile run, and 4x1 mile repeats at a little faster than marathon pace. Sundays run was fine and recovery from Saturday was good.
We will be running a 1/2 marathon this weekend - the times will not be super fast because we will be running at marathon pace in order to work on pacing a little and nutrition and hydration.
Stay tuned - the marathon is 6 weeks away and all is on pace to be there and be healthy.
