Crossing Guards are Cool

why you say?? Maybe not all crossing guards are cool but I came across a cool one this morning. I am out on my easy 8 this morning and I end up by the school at my house trying to get across a semi busy intersection and there is Jim (not sure if that is his name but he loooks like a Jim - my guess he is about 70 - 70 year old Jim)) - we exchange pleasantries while waiting for the light and then he says - "are you out running 26.2 this morning?" Not running a marathon, not running long - he states the exact mileage of the marathon - how many people do you know (outside of your running friends) know the exact distance of the marathon? Well, Jim does. I told him I was on an easy 8 preparing for Tampa and he tells me about the fact that he has watched the OUC 1/2 every year and also Disney every year. Then he proceeds to tell me to go out slow in Tampa and not get burned out in the first several miles :-) How cool is Jim?? I am going to run by Jim every time I can - I might even learn his real name one of these days.

It is the small stuff in running that makes me happy and the crossing guard made me happy today - he was such a nice guy - I am going to wave to my new friend every day I drive by him (which is like every day) I can not wait until my next conversation when he tells me about speed workouts.

Happy Training Everyone - have a wonderful weekend and I hope your weather is as nice as ours is going to be.
