encouraging or discouraging?

let me start out by saying - I am not a fast swimmer in terms of a lot of my fellow age group athletes - I have never claimed to be - quite honetly I really do not like swimming very much and avoid it at all cost if i can. I have (through the help of my coach) gotten to be a middle of the pack kind of swimmer that can salvage a good race time with my run if I am lucky.

any way - back to my avoiding swiming at all cost - I have not done a swim workout since November 2007 when i raced Miamiman (and my swim was not an award winner that day, maybe I should have tried to get to the start line on time)here are my swims since then

- open water to place bouys in Lake Louisa for one of our tri groups - did this 3 times

- 500 yards in the pool because I was too tired to run - then decided I wold rather run than swim

- 200-300 yard in the pool with Beth C to help her with her swimming (I can tell someone what to do, I just do not do it well)

This leads us to today - I met a client at Luckys for a 1k open water swim - and I have no idea what to expect but figure since she asked me to come with her for support I had better be able to swim 1k - yikes - it would have been bad for the coach if my client had to save me!

Any way - we swam the 1k - and I swam it in about 23 minutes - not fast, but I stopped a couple times to keep my eye on Dawn to make sure she was heading in the right direction and swimming ok - I was also working on breathing from both sides (another handicap of mine) - so I swim 2:18 a 100 for 1k - and this is in the open water without trying - I usually swim my races in about 1:55/100 for 1.5k so I guess 7 months off has not hurt me too much. Maybe I should focus a little more on swimming and maybe I can get better??

Hehehe - never mind - just a fleeting thought that I can swim! :-)

Happy training
