Summer is upon us (in case the 95 degree temps did not give it away) and I am starting to see a lot more flip flops lately. I personally can not wear flip flops because they hurt my achilles and my arches - I however am able to wear crocs because they have a little more support for the arch and heel.
So the age old questions is - is the flip flop our friend or foe? I came across this article today that sums it up for you
http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Springtime/story?id=5013448&page=1
the article basically says that people that wear flip flops a lot are subject to lower leg pain that could lead to injury. it says that we change our gait when we walk in flip flops because we are concerned about stubbing our toe and keeping the flop on. the article also says that you can wear them but it should be in moderation.
My personal opinion is that the flip flop has gotten a lot better - the "traditional" flop had zero support for the heel and no arch support - that is changing - there are all kind of flops out there now that give a little more support.
So the questions of friend or foe is not really answered but for me personally I say Foe and for others I say Friend - I would just not recommend wearing them all the time - mix in a shoe with support once in a while.

Buy some Keens - major arch support and toe coverage. Also they have ones that do not have the strap between the toes.....
